BLKOUT, Played Out

So, since last post I've had a few games under my belt. I've run some of the scenarios from various expansions and find myself enjoying them quite thoroughly!

One of the things that I do enjoy about this game is the intensity. Some have described the game to be a little brutal, however, I find it lends itself to the quickness of the games as well as the back-and-forth play. Pretty much every scenario we ran ended up in a 1-turn dice roll to see who would end up with the final victory, which is fairly standard for my brother and I.

In one scenario out of the Wetwork expansion, our groups were tasked with chasing down and apprehending 4 NPCs that would attempt to flee around the map. I chose to run UN Raid Force Alpha, and my brother chose Task Force Boone. Each group secured one target and began fighting over who could secure the others. Gunfire exchanged back and forth over multiple rounds, with the final round coming down to my marksman trying to hold a critical vantage point between an opposing unit and the only target in reach, trying to deny him the capture. His Razorback unit was able to put enough fire on me that I lost the unit, could not hold the angle, and lost the match in the final turn.

Despite that, I enjoyed it thoroughly. The brutality of the game encourages critical thinking and properly planned matchups, and figuring out how to stack benefits and debuffs to your advantage. Ultimately, it was a well-placed unit that led to the game's ending, and I have no issues with that.

We'll be taking a crack at it again in the future, bringing in Handlers, Dusters, and some scenarios from the Impact expansion.
